The Sun's Brew

ORGANIC MODERNISM | BTO HDB

Most travelers return with magnets; this couple collects artisanal finds, handcrafted ceramics, and original artwork. Shared passions for tea led to a simple initial brief: create a room for tea. But a better realization hit: why isolate tea when the whole home could embrace that state of mind?

To bring that essence indoors without traditional teahouse tropes, the design borrows Roji: a Japanese teahouse concept featuring a gently curved entrance wall. By forcing a wider turn upon entry, it gives you three brief seconds to shed workday speed before stepping into the living space.

The typical television is intentionally absent. Instead, travel artwork anchors the room, encouraging genuine conversation, reading, and connection over a fresh cup.

Terracotta was chosen for its unpolished, tactile grain, mirroring their clay artisanals and aging gracefully over time. Positioned to capture golden hour morning sunrays, steam wafts as sunlight illuminates their treasures alongside soft music.

Ultimately, a teahouse isn’t defined by timber, but a space you can breathe and linger a little longer.
